You should contact your doctor immediately under the following circumstances:

  1. If you notice any symptoms of UTI occurring in association with Nausea and vomiting, pregnancy, flank pain, fever and chills.

  2. If you had UTI symptoms before and they are currently reoccurring.

  3. If you notice blood or pus in your urine.

  4. If you have symptoms of UTI and some other medical condition like diabetes, cancer etc.

  5. If you have taken antibiotics and there is no improvement or symptoms improve only to recur after you stop.

You may choose to watch and wait if your symptoms are minor and not one of those mentioned above. In that case you may commence home treatment (that has been recommended by your doctor) for two days. After which you must see your doctor if there is no improvement. As a rule of thumb, see the doctor whenever in doubt. It's better to be safe than sorry.

DO NOT attempt to wait at home if you are pregnant, are older than 65yrs, or are a diabetic.
