Q - Is there a kind of meningitis caused by pneumonia?

A - Meningitis caused by pneumonia could mean that a patient had pneumonia and it later on spread to affect the brain. (This is possible but not common.)

In addition meningitis could be caused a type of bacteria called Streptococcus Pneumoniae which is also a common cause of pneumonia. In this case meningitis could occur even in the absence of pneumonia even though it was caused by the Strep. Pneumoniae organism.
