Q - Is meningitis a communicable disease?

A - First of all, what is a communicable disease?. A communicable disease is one that can be spread from one person to another.

Some forms of meningitis are communicable (Like meningitis caused by Niesseria Meningitidis) while some are not (Like those caused by medications, malignancy or fungi).

Niesseria Meningitidis frequently occurs in outbreaks among normal healthy people because of its highly contagious nature. Others like Listeria Monocytogenes have also been seen in some mini outbreaks among immunocompromised people.
